In Islam, respect for the environment and nature is of great importance.

Many verses in the Holy Qur'an and many Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad emphasize the protection of nature and the need not to pollute the environment.

"If a Muslim plants a tree or sows a crop and man, animal or bird eats from it, it is charity for that person until the Day of Judgment."(Muslim, Musakat, 10)
