The Virtue of the Three Holy Months and the Three Months Calendar

Regarded by Muslims as a spiritual spring, the three months are a blessed period in which acts of worship intensify, hearts are purified, and drawing closer to Allah is the aim.

The three months comprise the months of Rajab, Sha’ban, and Ramadan. These months represent a special period in which Allah opens the gates of His mercy, forgiveness, and blessing to the fullest. They hold particular significance especially because they include the month of Ramadan, in which fasting, one of the fundamental acts of worship in Islam, was made obligatory.

  • The Month of Rajab:
The month of Rajab marks the beginning of the three months and is a month of repentance and seeking forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the spirituality of these months by saying, “Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha’ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my ummah.” During this month, it is especially recommended to seek forgiveness abundantly, to perform voluntary prayers, and to fast.
  • The Month of Sha’ban:
The month of Sha’ban is a month in which acts of worship are increased and preparations are made for Ramadan. This month contains an important night such as the Night of Bara’ah (Berat). Our Prophet fasted more in the month of Sha’ban compared to other months and recommended this to his ummah as well.
  • The Month of Ramadan:
Ramadan is a blessed month full of worship, in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed and fasting was made obligatory. Throughout the month of Ramadan, in addition to fasting, emphasis should be placed on acts of worship such as the Tarawih prayers, completing recitations of the Qur’an, and giving sadaqah.
The Three Months Calendar: Important Days and Nights

Throughout the three months, the important holy nights, festivals, and times of worship can be listed as follows:

    • The Night of Ragha’ib (Regaib): The first Friday night of the month of Rajab. This is a night on which Allah’s mercy and favors are abundantly bestowed. (Thursday, 25 December 2025)
    • The Night of Mi’raj: The 27th night of the month of Rajab. This night, on which our Prophet ascended to the heavens and prayer was made obligatory upon the ummah, should be spent in supplication and worship. (Thursday, 15 January 2026)
  • The Month of Sha’ban:
    • The Night of Bara’ah (Berat): The 15th night of the month of Sha’ban. It is known as a blessed night on which sins are forgiven and supplications are accepted. (Monday, 2 February 2026)
  • The Month of Ramadan:
