The umrah prayers begin with the intention made upon entering ihram in the blessed lands, and continue with the invocations recited while circumambulating the noble Kaaba and while performing sa’y between Safa and Marwah. These supplications are the sacred entreaties handed down to us from our Prophet (peace be upon him), enabling the worship to be completed in spiritual reverence. On your 2026 umrah journey, you can follow the Arabic and English texts of these prayers from our guide.
Entering Ihram: The Intention and Talbiyah Prayers
The umrah worship begins at the miqat boundary with the intention and the talbiyah. After performing the ihram prayer, the intention is made as follows: “O Allah, I intend to perform umrah for Your pleasure; make it easy for me and accept it.” After the intention, it is sunnah to recite the talbiyah aloud.
The Talbiyah Prayer
Transliteration of the Talbiyah Prayer: Labbayk, Allahumma labbayk.
Meaning: “Here I am at Your service, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. Here I am. Verily all praise, grace and dominion belong to You. You have no partner.”
Prayers to Recite While Circumambulating the Kaaba
The tawaf is begun in line with the Black Stone, saying “Bismillahi Allahu Akbar.” In each circuit, one is occupied facing the Kaaba with tasbih, takbir and tahlil.
The Tawaf Tasbih
Meaning: “I declare Allah free from all imperfection, and praise belongs to Allah. There is no deity but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.”
The Prayer Between the Yamani Corner and the Black Stone
Meaning: “Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
The Safa and Marwah (Sa’y) Prayers
After making the intention for the sa’y worship, one is occupied with supplication and remembrance while walking between Safa and Marwah. It is especially recommended to recite the following prayer between the green-lit pillars (while performing the harwalah):
The Prayer Recited During the Harwalah
Meaning: “My Lord, forgive our sins, have mercy on us, pardon our faults and be generous to us. Overlook what You know of us. Indeed You know what we do not know; indeed You are Allah, the Most Mighty, the Most Generous.”
