The Prayer to be Performed After the Qurban Sacrifice

After the owner of the qurban sacrifices it or has someone else sacrifice it;

“When you sacrifice your qurban, put down the knife in your hand. Then perform a two-rak’ah prayer. Whosoever among the Muslims performs this two-rak’ah prayer and asks for something from Allah the Almighty, Allah the Almighty will certainly grant them what they asked for.”

It is mustahabb (recommended) to perform a two-rak’ah prayer in accordance with this Hadith Sharif.

In the first rak’ah of the prayer, Surah Al-Kawthar (“Inna a’tayna..”) is recited after Surah Al-Fatihah, and in the second rak’ah, Surah Al-Ikhlas (“Qul huwallahu ahad..”) is recited.

After this prayer;

kurban ibadeti

“Allahumma haza’l-kabshu, (aw haza’l-baqaru, aw haza’l-ma’zu) minka wa laka wa ilayka. Fataqabbal minni bi-lutfika wa karamika kama taqabbalta min Ibrahima Khalilika wa Isma’ila Zabihika wa Muhammadin Habibika bi-fadlika wa judika wa karamika Ya Akrama’l-Akramin”

This supplication is recited, and then prayers are made for religious and worldly needs. (Ziya-i Ma’nevi)

Distribution of the Qurban Meat

It is mustahabb (recommended) to divide the qurban meat into three parts.
1) One third is given as sadaqah.
2) One third is given as a gift or served as a feast to relatives and friends.
3) The remaining third is to be eaten by one’s family and children—those whose livelihood is upon them. (Badayi)

It is permissible to gift a portion of the qurban meat or donate it entirely. If the person who sacrificed the qurban is in need, it is afdal (more virtuous) and mustahabb to feed the qurban to their household. (Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah, Badayi, Tahtawi)

If one of the qurban partners dies before the sacrifice is performed, the qurban remains valid if it is sacrificed with the permission of the eldest of their heirs. (Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah)
If a person dies before sacrificing the qurban they purchased, the qurban becomes an inherited asset and transfers to the heirs. It is permissible if the heirs sacrifice it for themselves. (Nazm-i Zandusi)

Distribution of a Jointly Sacrificed Qurban

When a qurban is sacrificed jointly, it is not permissible to divide the meat by estimation; it must be divided by weighing.

However, during the division, if each share includes the skin, feet, head, liver, or a piece of its fat and tripe along with the meat, then dividing by estimation becomes permissible. (Qadi Khan and others)

If they cook and eat the meat all together without dividing it, it is permissible.

If a person buys a cow with the intention of sacrificing it for themselves, their family, and their adult children, it is not obligatory to divide the meat.
